Mallory's New Room

Mallory originally stated she did not want her walls painted, but then she saw Maggie's.  Do I need to say more?  We didn't mind painting her room, but it definitely made me have to rethink how I was going to refinish her chest of drawers.  Thankfully, I had just started stripping the paint off when she asked that her room be painted as well.  The original plan was to paint the chest green to go with her night stand, but we decided to not do that. It just wouldn't look right.  After much research and looking at paint sample after paint sample Matt and I agreed this route would look great. Here is her refinished dresser:  

I wanted to use chalk paint, but it is so expensive. I found out how to make my own and it was very easy.  The only negative is I should have used primer before using the white paint - I didn't think I would need to because with legit chalk paint you don't have to.

Mallory picked out the drawer pulls.  She did a really good job.

Here is the finished room. It is missing the mirror because at the time we had not found one yet.

We moved her bed as well, because she wanted furniture moved as well. I didn't want to move it, but Matt likes it better this way.

Photo Shoot

Matt took pictures of the girls this afternoon as part of a Mother's Day gift for Grandma.  I didn't tell him they are not to be really close up photos so we are going to have to retake them.  Still wanted to post some of the photos to show.

Do you see someone special that was able to sneak into this photo?  She isn't part of Mallory's daily life anymore, but still very special.

Movies With Dad

Each year, Disney puts out a nature movie around Earth Day.  The movie this year is called Monkey Kingdom.  Here is the synopsis: 

1. In South Asia, Maya the monkey and her son Kip struggle to survive within the competitive social hierarchy of the troop at Castle Rock. When neighboring monkeys take over their home, Maya's whole troop is forced to relocate. She uses her ingenuity to lead the members of her extended family to untapped resources amid strange new creatures and unfamiliar surroundings. Ultimately, the entire troop must work together to reclaim Castle Rock, where Maya hopes her son will have a bright future.

The movie and the family time was great.  This was also the first time Matt has ever gone to the movie with the girls.  We don't get out much. :)

What in the World?

Apparently, our children can sleep in any position and anywhere for that matter.  Check out these photos.  I bet they will make you laugh.  We sure did when we found them this way.

Maggie: she got out of bed and went to the table and fell asleep. Again, have no clue why.

Maggie's New Bedroom

Maggie has been saying for a while now that she didn't like the yellow walls in her room. "They aren't as pretty as Mallory's," she would say.  I have been over the yellow walls too, but didn't want to paint and I wasn't going to tell Maggie.  I just keep letting her know that when it was time to get rid of her baby dresser we would update her room. Well, that day has come - Ashlee and Chase are in the process of fostering to adopt and they asked for the baby bed and dresser. With that said - it was time for us to start working on a REAL big girl room for Maggie.

I had an idea of what type of dresser I wanted for her and started looking around online. I found the PERFECT dresser on craigslist and Matt went and picked up during lunch one day.  The dresser was in her room for a couple of weeks until Guy Guy could come over and help me paint.  (He and Mammy kept Maggie while I went to Mallory's field trip and Guy Guy surprised me by painting the entire room.  That was so nice of him.) Two days later, (4/18) the girls went to Greenville for a sleep over because Matt and I had a wedding to go to that night.  After he came home, we went to World Market and found the perfect mirror to go with the dresser.  When Maggie came home the next day she was so happy with her finished room. We all love it!

Mallory's First Field Trip

Kindergarten has two field trips and today was the first one.  It was to the Plano ISD Outdoor Learning Center.  I was fortunate enough to be able to attend and lead a group of students.

After spending time on the nature walk, we went inside for more learning.  In the classroom, the kids were able to pet some animals: dove, turtle, bunny, and a snake.  Mallory touched the snake because of good old peer pressure.  She and Gabe sat down (you had to stand if you wanted to touch the animal) because they didn't want to...then they saw all the other kids standing and I watched them both slowly stand up.  Eww!

Fancy Nancy The Musical

Two summers ago, Mallory and I discovered the book series "Fancy Nancy," at the library.  Nancy is a girl who loves all things French and enjoys using big words because well it sounds fancy.  We have read all the books that are at the library and are hoping they will buy some more for us to read!  

Back in October or November, there was advertisement in the newspaper stating "Fancy Nancy, the Musical," was coming to town.  We purchased tickets for Mallory's birthday and today was the day to see the show.  Mammy went with us and we had a great time.  Mallory was actually really into the musical and even danced just a little when they asked the kids too.

Mallory with her wand afterwards.  The cast was out doing a meet-and-great, but Mallory didn't want to wait in the line so we went straight home. We purchased a wand for Maggie to have as well and she loved it!

Creativity at Work

Maggie and Teeghan were riding bikes today and I looked up and saw this going by.  That's one way to ride a tricycle together!

Easter Sunday

Today was a good day. We got to celebrate Jesus and have a great time with family.  Mallory and Maggie both loved their gifts from the Easter Bunny.  Mallory received an Elsa costume and a pair of blue sandals.  Maggie received a Paw Patrol Zuma toy and a Jake and the Neverland Pirates bath toy.

Due to the rain, the church Egg Hunt was held inside.  Can you see the bunny in the far back (minus the head)?  That is me! I was told I did a great job.  It was fun - I danced and could act goofy and it was okay.  Mallory enjoyed the egg scramble (not really a hunt) and gathered a lot of eggs. She is the one in the striped dress.  Maggie had a hard time and cried because all the kids ran out and she thought she wouldn't get any eggs.  Matt finally was able to get her out there, but we don't have any photos.

After church, everyone came over to our house for lunch and to hang out.  Uncle Jason made pork tacos and they were delicious!
